Salvation is God’s grace. It is the gift of freedom from our sins that Jesus made possible by taking the punishment for our sins on the cross. Through this gift, 1 John 1:9 promises that “If we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
This is one of the most important promises of Scripture; it gives us freedom and hope for the future. God is faithful and invites us to find new life in response to that faithfulness.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life." -John 3:16
Step 1
Realize you are a sinner
No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a perfect person. That is because we are all sinners. Sin simply means that we can’t measure up to God’s perfect standard of righteousness.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," -Romans 3:23

Step 2
Realize the penalty for sin is death
The penalty for sin is death. God will not allow imperfection in His eternal kingdom. But God has given us a way out.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 6:23

Step 3
Recognize that Jesus died for you
The good news is that Jesus -- the Son of God -- paid the debt that we couldn't pay ourselves by suffering death on the cross. We only need to accept this great gift from a loving Savior.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8

Step 4
Confess that Jesus is Lord of your life
Believe in (and put your reliance on) Jesus, for he died for you and rose from the grave three days later. He sits at the right hand of the Father preparing an eternal place for you, no matter what bad things you've done in your life.
"confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved," -Romans 10:9

Step 5
Repent of your sin
Change your direction, no longer living for yourself, but living for Him and doing His ways.
"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” -Acts 3:19
